Ellis Island: Symbol of US Immigration

From 1892-1954 the immigrant inspection station at Ellis Island (NY) was the entry point for millions of new arrivals to the United States. While Ellis Island served a practical governmental function it has become part of the myth of America as the gateay to a better life for the disadvantaged from around the globe.
