Step By Step Directions

Get Ready To Research

Step 1: Use the guiding questions to decide what you want to learn. Make your own questions based on the guiding questions.

Step 2: Get Started With Your Google Presentation

  1. Sign into a computer or computers
  2. Open Google at CPS
  3. Enter your username and password to open (not .\school and Student!)
  4. Click on the grid at the top right. (It is next to your cps email address)
  5. Choose Google Drive
  6. At the top left, click on “create” and choose “presentation”
  7. Choose the “Simple Light” theme
  8. Click at the top where it says “Untitled Document”
  9. Name Your Document with the topic you are exploring. Add the names of your group members.
  10. At the top right, click on “share”
  11. Enter your group members’ email in order to share.

Step 3: Share your presentation with your team-mates so more than one person can work at a time.

  • Follow steps 1-5 above
  • Click the little arrow next to “My Drive”
  • Click on “Shared with me”
  • Choose your presentation.

Start your research
  • Go to
  • Click on the FHS Library link
  • Scroll down to the bottom and click on “Class Projects and Pathfinders”
  • Click on “Mr. Wankoff: Immigration Research Project”
  • Choose your topic from the right.
  • Read and gather ideas--you can enter them on page 9 of your packet or just paste important ideas quotes and graphs into your presentation--be sure to copy your source--especially the web address!!
  • Note: If you are doing Japanese American Immigration, go to for sources.

Final Product
  • Title Page: Name of your topic and group members
  • 4-7 Content Pages --Research Questions at the top/What you found at the bottom/In-text citations
  • References Page
  • Presentation to the Class--Practiced and logical
